Healthcare In America - Do You Ever Feel Like A Number?

So 3 weeks ago I went in to have a scope done because I was having issues with my stomach, colon, digestive system, etc.

So they found two polyps in my colon - they are actually pretty common. The doctor told me that he would send them off for testing...for a biopsy to see if they were cancerous or whatever.

I asked him how long the tests would take to come back....7 - 10 days he said. He assured me he would call me when he got the results back in a week or so...

Well...we are going on 21 days and I have not heard a peep out my health care company, my specialist, or my primary care physician.

I have had a lot on my mind lately with switching positions at work amongst other things....so I have not called in...so my bad on that..

I realize I am just a number to them...they see patient after patient after patient and I realize that overall I am just a chart, a number and a co-pay.

But I wish I wasn't...

thats the most common problem today in healthcare. being in the field, i hear the same complaints a lot. your md should have some sort of tickler file that a nurse or secretary should be attending to. i think thats where the ball was dropped if i had to guess. the md should be reviewing whats happening but he/she also may be relying to heavily on his ancillary personel. there have been so many issues that have changed in just the past 2 years that i always tell people that they have to be proactive with everything that goes on with them medically. i hope your polyps are benign and that all is better with your gi tract.

Thanks bud - I appreciate that - I am not upset at the doctor. I mean after all he has soooo many patients...it is just our system that is messed up.

But I appreciate your good thoughts!

I hear ya! It is sad that we lose that "personal touch" (no, not that) with today's health care system, or lack there of. I hope you're feeling better and everything checks out for you. Now...call them back till you get a human! lol.

Wow, seriously? That sucks stud... I'm sorry you have such shitty doctors. I was very lucky to find a doctor who is such a good internist that she will order every test imaginable to find out what you have and force you to come in to see her every day until they figure out what you have. She also treats you like you were one of her own kids so I don't know what I'd do without her really.. :)
