Movie Review: War of the Worlds - A Battle Plan Gone Wrong!

I went to see War of the Worlds last night. I usually dont go see opening movies during the week, but I decided to give in. I dont particularly enjoy Tom Cruise as an actor. I actually went b/c Stephen Spielberg was directing, and he is an awesome director.

So about seeing the movie. One word of advice: DON'T!

At the end you will wish you hadn't. It is disjointed and Cruise gives one of his worst performances that I can actually remember. And Dakota Fanning (who I absolutely adore) was so annoying I just wanted to slap her the whole damn time. Can someone please just shut her up in this movie.

The acting is stiff, and the plot...oh wait...believe it or not there is NO plot. I mean you would think there would be. Aliens come to earth and try to take over. Yeah it looks like a plot, sounds like a plot, but the analogy doesnt hold true. It has all the appearances of a great plot but somehow it gets lost.

The special effects are great! But at times I actually found myself saying out loud, "Geez just move this along" and "God..shut her up" and "Ok...this scene could have been deleted."

So yeah - i feel like I wasted my 7.50 to go see this movie. But oh well....

I give it 1 1/2 out of 4 stars.....

Actually in thinking back, the best parts of the movie are the monologues spoken by Morgan Freeman at the beginning and ending of the movie....

Frustrations in the Music World - GRRRRRR!

I used to be a HUGE fan of Realrhapsody.com

I would tell everyone about it. Brag about it. Loved it.

I could download whatever song I wanted whenever I wanted.

It was only 9.95 per month.

But Damn - WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS THAT WEBSITE TRULY IS!

I mean in theory it is great...until you get locked out every other week and have to send them several customer service inquiries in the first 4 months of having a membership. Yeah that is wonderful.

It is great when you try to burn a song onto a CD and the whole program deletes your account info.

It is just dandy when you send customer service inquiries explaining that for some reason the website does not show you have a paying membership yet customer service fixes it temporarily...only to have the same thing happen one month later.

Havent they ever heard of actually solving the problem.

Well I have had enough.

I am done with that no good, sorry ass, account deleting, computer freezing, no song burning, customer service ignoring wanna be website.

I am deleting my account and finding something else.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

So tomorrow my account will be deleted for good. Yeah you heard me. Even though I dont show an account, they are STILL charging my credit card.

So it will be deleted....

Once I send in yet another customer service inquiry.....oh joy!

Phew! I feel better....

Its not a bad site totally - i am just frustrated right now b/c my account seems to have problems every month.....

SO...we will see if they are able to help me out on this one - stay tuned!

Designing Women - Just One More Quick Quote!

The ladies debate over what makes a man attractive.

SUZANNE: Myself, I prefer the older established type.
MARY JO: You mean rich.... and terminally ill?

Julia Sugarbaker - Her Terminator Tirades and Why We Love Her!

Designing Women was such a great show. Yes I am pulling out my gay card Loud and Proud. I used to watch it every day at 4:00 after coming home from school. Looking back, it is crazy how my parents didnt know I was gay sooner. (Maybe they did!) :-)

I used to love hearing Julia Sugarbaker go off on her rants about everything from social injustice to politics.

My favorits are below:

The Beauty Contest

JULIA: Excuse me, aren't you Marjorie Leigh Winnick, the current Miss Georgia World?
MARJORIE: Why, yes I am.
JULIA: I'm Julia Sugarbaker, Suzanne Sugarbaker's sister. I couldn't help over hearing part of your conversation.
MARJORIE: Well, I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone was here.
JULIA: Yes, and I gather from your comments there are a couple of other things you don't know, Marjorie. For example, you probably didn't know that Suzanne was the only contestant in Georgia pageant history to sweep every category except congeniality, and that is not something the women in my family aspire to anyway. Or that when she walked down the runway in her swimsuit, five contestants quit on the spot. Or that when she emerged from the isolation booth to answer the question, "What would you do to prevent war?" she spoke so eloquently of patriotism, battlefields and diamond tiaras, grown men wept. And you probably didn't know, Marjorie, that Suzanne was not just any Miss Georgia, she was the Miss Georgia. She didn't twirl just a baton, that baton was on fire. And when she threw that baton into the air, it flew higher, further, faster than any baton has ever flown before, hitting a transformer and showering the darkened arena with sparks! And when it finally did come down, Marjorie, my sister caught that baton, and 12,000 people jumped to their feet for sixteen and one-half minutes of uninterrupted thunderous ovation, as flames illuminated her tear-stained face! And that, Marjorie --- just so you will know --- and your children will someday know --- is the night the lights went out in Georgia!

Killing All the Right People

An old "friend"/client of Julia's overhears their plans to decorate an AIDS funeral room.
IMOGENE SALINGER: Now I don't like to hurt anyone's feelings, but if these boys hadn't been doing what they were doing, they wouldn't be getting what's coming to them now.
MARY JO: Imogene, gays aren't the only ones getting it.
IMOGENE: No, but they're the ones who started it.
KENDALL DOBBS: Actually nobody knows how it got started. Gays are just one of the first groups it showed up in.
IMOGENE: Yes, and for a good reason.......you reap what you sow. You boys brought this on yourselves. As far as I'm concerned this disease has one thing going for it.......it's killing all the right people!
JULIA: Imogene, I'm terribly sorry. I'm gonna have to ask you to move your car.
IMOGENE: Why?
JULIA: (pulling her towards the door) Because you're leaving. The only thing worse than all these people who never had any morals before AIDS are all you holier-than-thou types who think you're exempt from getting it.
IMOGENE: Well, for your information, I am exempt. I haven't lived like these people, and I don't care what you say, Julia Sugarbaker, I believe this is God's punishment for what they've done.
SUZANNE: Oh yeah? Then how come lesbians get it less?
IMOGENE: That is not for me to say.......I just know that these people are getting what they deserve!
JULIA: Imogene, get serious! Who do you think you're talking to? I've known you for 27 years, and all I can say is.......if God was giving out sexually transmitted diseases to people as a punishment for sinning, that you would be at the free clinic all the time! ........and so would the rest of us!!
BERNICE: I think she makes a good point.
IMOGENE: Oh, who cares what you think?! (she points at her head) You're not even all there! BERNICE: (shocked) Well, as long as we're on the subject, (pointing at her chest) neither are you!
IMOGENE: (totally furious) Well, you needn't look forward to any more of my business in this lifetime!
JULIA: Wonderful! I'll close up your account! And another thing, my son has an A in chemistry! In fact, he's making all A's! In everything -- including P.E!!

Check out the link below for the rest of her awesome Tirades:

  • Displaying the Ten Commandments - The U.S. Supreme Court Decision

So the Supreme Court issued its decision on the displaying of the Ten Commandments.

Now this is a major case - If the Supreme Court shoots down all displays of the 10 commandments it is a major blow for organized religion in this nation.

Well they split on the cases.

Apparently from now on it is OK to have it on the property just not IN the buildings!

    Here is how they voted:

    Texas state capitol display:

Yes to display - Rehnquist, Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, Breyer.

No to display - Stevens, Ginsburg, O'Connor, Souter.

    ---

    Kentucky supreme court display:

No to display - Souter, Stevens, O'Connor, Ginsburg, Breyer.

Yes to display - Rehnquist, Scalia, Thomas, Kennedy.

The display at the Texas State Capitol was OUTSIDE the courthouse - it was just on the property of the Courthouse. This is apparently ok.

The Kentucky Supreme Court had it displayed INSIDE the courthouse. Apparently this is not ok.

What a unique balance the Supreme Court always seems to reach on these touchy issues.

Friday Night Date Cont'd - Situation Needing Some Comments

Ok so I cant post everything right now but a situation has arisen concerning my Friday night date and I need some advice - I will post either later tonight or tomorrow - keep your eyes out and your comments coming!

Friday Night Date - A Success!

I met this guy a while back on gay.com. We chatted for just a little while, but nothing came of it. We never spoke on the telephone. We never met in person. We didnt really make any sort of connection. I was out at the Round Up last weekend and it was towards the end of the night when this guy walks up behind me at the bar and says, "Hey...arent you on gay.com." Im like great!....that is just how I like to be identified in a bar. Oh well...

We chat and exchange names and we both recall that we had talked before online. He is a very cute guy. I was so drunk I did not get his number at the bar. I just said..."I will see you online." Afterwards I was kicking myself for this.

So I sign onto gay.com the next night and I see his screenname online so I send him a message...no response....send a second message.....still no response.

I wonder - was he just being polite last night at the bar...???

Hmmm - so I went out on a limb and sent him a message with my number asking him to call me sometime if he wanted to talk or hang out..etc....I almost felt like a crazy guy for giving my number out like that over the net to someone who I couldnt tell was even interested in me.

So...I leave my apt and go run some errands...i come back and he still has not responded to my messages on gay.com....oh well I think....

Suddenly I get this text message that says, "I am trying to send you messages but i guess you arent getting them...I am signed on now."

So I just call the number back that the text message came from and I am greeted with a deep voice saying, "Hi there." :-)

We talk for a while - right now he lives in East Texas but is moving to the Dallas area in a few weeks for a new job. Lucky me.

We set up a date for yesterday. We went for mexican food and a movie. We saw Land of the Dead. Turns out we are both horror movie buffs. Ha Ha. What a first date movie, eh? But it was awesome. Had so much fun at dinner and the movie.

He spent the night but it was innocent. He couldnt drive back the 3 hours to his house that night. Just cuddled and slept. He went to a pool party today that was already scheduled in Dallas and we are meeting up tonight to hang out again.

So I will keep ya posted....

Did I mention he smokes...ugh....ha ha...but its not a deal breaker
    :-)

His cute smile more than makes up for it...

Supreme Court Decision - You Could Lose Your House!

I am so pissed about the recent Supreme Court decision about property ownership.

The Supreme Court ruled today, in one of its most closely watched property rights cases in years, that fostering economic development is an appropriate use of the government's power of eminent domain.

So basically if the gov't can show a valid economic need that will benefit the community the gov't can exercise the right of eminent domain and take your house.

    Hmmm...how shitty!

    I disagree with this decision.

Those voting with the majority (supporting the gov't right of eminent domain):

Justices John Paul Stephens, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, and Anthony M. Kennedy voted in the majority.

**** Notice many of the so called liberal justices...

Those voting with the minority (those siding with the individual homeowners):

Justices Rehnquist, O'Connor, Thomas, and Scalia.

**** Notice the so-called conservative justices...

I am disgusted with this 5-4 decision....oh well...

Being Nice - Some Things Come Free

I always go to the same Subway whenever I happen to go to Subway for dinner. The same girl serves me everytime I go there. She is so nice and so sweet. We don't say much. We just smile, nod, thank each other, and we go on. It's very nice. There is something about her smile that me smile even more.

Well today I walked in and ordered my sub. She smiled as usual and at the end I ordered three white chocolate chip cookies. She gave them to me for free.

I was so pleasantly surprised...all I could do is smile. She thanked me and winked at me.

I think she has a crush on me. How sweet!

Just goes to show ya...being nice can pay off! :-)

My Car Pool Buddy - A Unique Christian

I car pool to work everyday with this guy - lets call him D.

D has a wife, a young baby, and one more on the way.

D goes to seminary part time.

    D is a christian.

D is quite possibly one of the nicest, coolest guys I know.

D knows that I am gay.

    D does not care.

D does not agree with homosexuality, but does not judge me.

D talks with me about scripture.

D listens to worship music with me on the way home from work.

D has never told me I was going to hell.

D states he falls short every day.

D believes in the love of God.

D believes in the example of Jesus in loving those we want to help.

    D is a model.

D is a great friend and the only connection I have left with the Church.

D has softened my attitude about church and christians in general.

D is a model of how Jesus would be.

The following quote was said by Madeline Albright during a sermon at Yale Divinity School:

"...We can hope that We are on God's side. We can pray that God is on our side. But we can only admit, if we are honest, that we fall far short of what God has asked and what our own consciences instruct..."

We all fall short and can only rely on the love and patience of God to bring us closer to Him...

More Online Stupidity - Who are these people?

What is with people who are on AOL or gay.com or any of the endless number of chat programs on the internet.

It is almost like they lose all ability to actually think.

Who in their right mind actually beings a conversation with any of the following:

"Top or bottom?" - Are you kidding me? My God - at least be original

    "U looking?" - yeah I'm looking - for someone with a clue

"Where you located?" - read my profile asshole - it says in bold DALLAS

"ASL?" - enough said - what the hell is that? It is not even a word, much less a sentence...

"Wanna fuck?" - sure..I dont know how old you are, what you look like, whether you are a psycho, if you have all your teeth , but sure how bout we suck and fuck all night long - are you kidding me?

Haven't these people ever read a book on internet etiquette???

What the hell are these people thinking? I mean...I know I have blogged about this before but it blows my mind. I just dont understand. Haven't these people ever heard of INTRODUCTIONS such as Hi, how are you? What are you up to?

OR...OH MY GOSH..GOD FORBID you actually say............DRUM ROLL PLEASE.....

"Nice profile...enjoyed reading it...how are you doing tonight?"

    This communicates many things....

    1) - It means you can actually read a profile - truly a rare gift online

    2) - You actually understood what my profile said i was looking for and what I wasnt looking for...and you still wanted to talk to me?

    3) - You might...just might stand a better chance of getting a response from me.

And the worst thing of all is when they get pissed at you for not responding how they want.......or better yet when they deny they are looking to hook up...

I realize that they wanted to know my "ASL" and if I was top or bttm for a survey about the gay community. I know they they needed to know if I was "looking" so they could warn me of the dangers of sleeping around. I know they only wanted to know where I lived so they could ask about the local real estate market....I know all these things....but yet I still think they only want sex...

    Stupid Me!

Maybe I need to read the book about internet etiquette.....

    Movies to See

Batman Begins - heard it was actually really good!

War of the Worlds - Dislike Tom Cruise! Love Dakota Fanning! Love Spielberg! By a vote of 2 - 1 "going to see it" wins out

Land of the Dead - I just love horror movies!

Life - How long is TOO long to be single?

I was thinking bout something today - I have basically been single now for almost 5 years. I have dated on and off but nothing serious past a month or so.

    Hmmmm.

So the question must be asked.

If you stay out of the dating/relationship world for too long, do you forget how to date?

How long is TOO long to be single...???

Republicans - Democracy, Dictatorship, or Theocracy?

Now anyone who knows me knows that I am so PRO-AMERICA!

I do not support America-Bashing at all!

I am blessed to have been born in the USA and to have enjoyed all the advantages and freedoms that come with American citizenship. For example:

    * I can criticize my government anytime I want
    * I can travel where I want no questions asked
    * I make more money in one week than many people make in a year in many parts of the world
    * I can gather in public protest
    * I can choose which religion I want to follow

    etc., etc., etc......

I LOVE AMERICA! But lately I am beginning to question the current administrations committment to these freedoms!

    For example:

    * Bush wants to outlaw gay marriage and write discrimination into the constitution. He wants to classify me as a second class citizen
    * He pre-emptively attacks other nations and interferes in their political arena even though WE would NEVER allow that to happen here
    * He promotes a political agenda influenced more by personal theology - completely against the principle of separation of church and state

The list could go on and on...

Now I voted for George W. Bush in the year 2000. He was running on a platform of compassionate conservatism. Something happened when he was elected. He left that platform and became more influenced by the conservative right.

I grew up in a conservative home and even after I came out as a gay man, I continued to suppport the republican party b/c I believed they had the best interest of the nation at heart.

    I no longer believe that.

Unfortunately, I am left to believe that the only interest the republican party has is to spread its policies and theologies both here and abroad. And even though I personally believe in Jesus and the cross (I know its a shock, but I also believe in the right for everyone to choose for themselves what they believe..so no harm, no foul, and no nasty comments about that!), I do not believe it should be espoused from the White House.

We specifically separate those two ideoligies (government and religion) to keep our nation from being a theocracy. It did not work in England when we fled to the new world. We did not like the head of the church also being head of the government. I dont think we should have that here.

In 2008, I will not be able to support the Republican Party. I am a democrat. Not really by choice but by a lack of options. The Republican Party has turned its back on me and now the Democratic party has accepted me with open arms and does not judge. What choice do I have? I will not be like the abused spouse who returns to the abuser.

The Republican Party has slapped me around for the last time.

    Democrats...I am coming home!

That is of course unless Condoleeza Rice runs under the Republican ticket - HA HA!
    :-) :-)

Condoleeza Rice - A Republican Super Star!

OK....that previous post about republican assholes does not apply to her!! damnit!! ha ha....

Yes she is a Republican. An African American Republican at that. And to me honestly, her politics dont matter. I simply LOVE Condoleeza Rice. I dont know what it is about her!?!?

My Democratic friends would probably kick my ass for saying so, but I love her.

She is fresh, new and something that the republican party truly needs.

My question is how will the Democrats answer?

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am not a fan of the Howard Dean lets-yell-and-scream-and-bitch-and-gripe-and-pout-and-blame everything on the Republican Pary bullshit.

We know that as a Democrat you ideologically disagree with the Republicans. So STOP just yelling about it and lead our part to the forefront. Take us to the next level.

    Lets ACT. Not just SHOUT!

Where is our superstar? Is it Hillary? Will she run against Condi in 2008? WOW! Now that would be race for the record books. I would love to see that race match up. It would be exciting.

A small part of me (Ok...a big part of me) would want to vote for Condi. I dont know why...her personality, the way she carries herself. I love it. Here is an excerpt describing her recent trip to Europe and how the European press loved her:

Indeed, the British press dubbed Rice "the Bette Davis of Diplomacy." The German press settled with describing the former figure skater and aspiring concert pianist as "coquettish." And her speech in Paris was the hottest ticket in town."

"The diplomatic tour marked for Rice her first foray onto the international stage as secretary of state. She draped herself in stylish suits, strappy heels, high leather boots and a toothy grin as she visited heads of state from eight European countries. If there is such a thing, Rice became the "it" girl of the GOP when she stepped into Germany in tall black leather boots. Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan said the look was something straight out of "The Matrix.""

"In general, she looks more polished and, for lack of a better word, fresher," said Givhan, who described Rice's look at an appearance at Wiesbaden as "draped in a banner of authority, power and toughness. She was not hiding behind matronliness, androgyny or the stereotype of the steel magnolia. Rice brought her full self to the world stage -- and that included her sexuality. It was not overt or inappropriate. If it was distracting, it is only because it is so rare."

    GO CONDI...er...uh...I mean...GO HILLARY!?!?!?

The Gays Should Leave Texas - According to our Governor!

    That is right people!

According to Governer Perry, the gay people of Texas should go and live in a state that has more lenient laws. Governor Perry was responding to a question about how the resolution he was signing (which technically didnt need his signature and was signed in a Christian school...HELLO! Separation of Church and State People!) would affect retired veterans who happened to be gay. This was was our wonderful Governors response:

"Texans have made a decision about marriage and if there is some other state that has a more lenient view than Texas then maybe that's a better place for them to live," Perry said.

Perry is referring to the DOMA - The Defense of Marriage Act which already states that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Technically, Perry's signature was only symbolic since the measure he signed has to be approved by voters in November. The bill he was signing basically places before the voters of Texas the option in November of ammending the Texas Constitution to outlaw gay marriage. The message is clear:

If you are QUEER, and you are HERE, then GET OUT!

It seems that we are not welcome. Hmmm. What to do about that? How bout we vote his ass out of office. Unfortunately, with the slim pickens that the democratic party has in Texas, it is unlikely to boot the republicans from the governership!

Massachusettes is lookin pretty good right about now...

    Fucking republican assholes...

I cant believe I used to be one...

Now I know...I know...there are some republicans who are not assholes and not bad people. There are actually some republicans who are supportive of gay rights. Now those republicans happen to usually live in Blue States lol...but I know they are there. So my statement about "republican assholes" is simply frustration being let out....

    Still Alive and Well

So posting has been scarce the last few days. Things have been super hectic in my life. I am looking around at the possibility of a new job/career change. I am also thinking about going back to school. So yeah...been a lot on my mind lately.

I promise I will get back up to blogging tomorrow...as it is now, it is 1:00 am and I am exhausted.

Talk to you guys soon enough!

    Bagging a Str8 Man - A Gay Man's Fantasy!

So there is this guy I talk to online every now and then. We actually met in person at the bars and then met online and didnt realize we were talking to each other. Needless to say, he is a very nice guy. Very cute guy also.

So yesterday I decide to stay in and catch up on my sleep. I wake up this am to an IM from this guy. I IM him back and say hey. He states that he sent the IM to me at 4 am and he was drunk. He then proceeds to tell me about his night out at the clubs, particularly the gay dance club S4.

So I ask him if he danced up a storm b/c supposedly the "Babylon Tour" was there last night. Now I am a gay man supposedly in the "know" but I have not clue who or what the hell the "Babylon Tour" is. I later found out, but oh well, I digress...

He then states that he made out with a straight guy last night at the club. Now I have two initial problems with that. Typically a straight guy would not be out at a gay dance club 1.) alone without a girl attached to his hip and 2.) not on the night that the biggest dj/dancing/party tour comes to town.

But I dont challenge the story I simply add the "good for you" line that one friend gives to another to encourage them LOL.

He then goes on to add that the straight man wanted to take him home, but my friend turned him down (how noble of a horny gay guy not to take advantage of a straight guy!). Now I have two initial problems with this as well. Typically a truly straight guy would not 1.) take a guy home with him from a gay dance club on one of the biggest dance nights of the year 2.) typically, and I am stretching on this one, a truly straight guy would usually go home with a WOMAN.

Now....I dont care if anyone is gay, straight, bi, trans whatever.....you be what you wanna be, but we have to have some common sense. And this damn gay fantasy of bagging a straight guys just irritates me. No wonder some of them have a fear of becoming friends with us. LOL.

Is it a hot fantasy to have? Yeah I guess so...

Has every gay man seen a straight man he wanted to bag at some point? Hell Yeah!

But for all goodness and common sense left in the world lets agree on one simple point.

If a "Straight" man makes out with a guy, and wants to take him home, then chances are that he is not totally straight. I mean come on. He is probably bi, closeted, curious, or something of the sort. There is at least a part of him that is NOT so straight.

Now I do believe there is a difference between being homosexual and experimenting in homosexual behavior. Simply b/c a guy kisses a guy doesnt mean he is gay. There is definately a difference between behavior and orientation, but if a guy makes out with you, dances shirtless with you at a club, gives you his phone number, and then offers to take you home, it is not his first time at the rodeo! HE is not straight.

So lets break out of this fantasy world.

I for one do not want a bi guy, a straight guy, a whatever you wanna call yourself in order to feel more comfortable about your sexuality guy....

I am gay and I want to date someone who is comfortable being gay.

But what do I know...because then again

I have never bagged a straight guy!

Jesse Helms - How Did This Man Get Elected SO MANY TIMES?

It does not say much for the people of North Carolina that this racist of a man was elected so many times to the floor of the Senate to represent them.

I lived in North Carolina for about 6 months and I loved the state on the outside. It was incredibly beautiful. Now living there for only 6 months I did not become involved too much in the political landscape...and for that matter I did not research it much.

But one person I knew about was Jesse Helms.

In his memoirs which are soon to be published, Helms apologizes for his stance on AIDS but NOT on his stance for segregation.

I think it is embarrassing for the people of North Carolina to have elected such a man to the floor of the Senate.

He stands for INEQUALITY, INJUSTICE, and RACISM.

A Humble and Heartfelt Apology to an Awesome Friend!

Most of you have seen me write about my friend Samuel. Samuel and I have a long history together spanning 8 years. We met while in college at Baylor, and Sam has grown into one of my truest friends. Honest and blunt to a fault. Humble and loyal to a T.

This is my heartfelt apology to him.

I did not call him on his birthday.

I am without excuse. It was not out of spite for anything. It was a huge mistake and a huge slip of the mind.

I emailed my friend an apology today, but thought it was appropriate to add this to my blog because the title of my blog is "My So Called Life - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

Well this mistake was a combination of the BAD and the UGLY!

So to my friend Sam. I love you. I have missed you so much as of late as we have strengthened and shored up our friendship. I hope that this does not set us too far back.

I offer to you an apology of heartfelt sincerity.

And most importantly, I ask your forgiveness.

    Love,

    Matt

Online Profiles - They are there for a Reason!

Anyone who is on America Online knows that you can create a profile on there. So my question is...why don't people read them!

Please see the following sample dialog:

    Annoying Stranger: "Hey sup?"

Me: "Not much. How are you?"

Annoying Stranger: "Not much man. How are you tonight? You Looking?"

Me: "Doint great. Just hanging out. Chatting a bit. Not looking!"

    Annoying Stranger: "Cool. ASL?"

Me: "No. My name is Matt. Are you looking for ASL?"

Now in my mind I am thinking: Why would you ask me to hook up if you didnt know which sex I was, where I was located, and how old I was?

Annoying Stranger: "LOL. No. What is your age? sex? location?"

Me: "Well its all in my profile! Did you not read my profile before you Imed me?"

Annoying Stranger: "No. I will read it now."

Me: "Why would you IM someone without reading the profile first? Especially if you were looking for a hook up?"

Annoying Stranger: "Yeah i just dont always read them."

    About one minute passes......

    Annoying Stranger: "Hello???...."

    Another minute passes........

    Annoying Stranger: "You still there...."

    Another minunte passes........

Annoying Stranger: "Thanks for being a prick. night!"

Now let us analyze this conversation. Was I really being a prick? I dont think so.

Why the hell wouldnt he read my profile first? I hate it when people ask me ASL, especially when it is already in my profile. It's just annoying. I took the damn time to fill it out so you shouldnt ask me any questions that are answered in there.

And to be honest, do i really wanna talk to someone online who is asking to hook up with someone of unknown gender, unknown location, and unknown age. What if I was a retired plumber aged 76 living in Florida instead of Dallas?

Not the smartest cookie in the batch was he.....?

The Intelligence Test - Bush vs Kerry

This post is for all of those people who ragged on George W. Bush for being a complete idiot. Now I know that this post might upset some of my democratic friends but I dont give a shit.

I am a democrat. BUT...i am also a lover of TRUTH.

Kerry is a much better speaker than Bush. Hell most people are better speakers than George W. Bush. But speaking ability does not always equate to intelligence! I would say that it translates more to "charisma" than "intelligence".

This post really isnt about intelligence, per se. It is merely about one interesting point that came out in the presidential election of 2004.

During that elecion, Bush's grades at Yale were made a HUGE deal of. He called himself a C student and everyone criticized him for being average.

Not many people realized that John Kerry REFUSED to release his college transcripts from Yale during the presidential campaign. Why is that? Why would someone whom the media portrayed as having a much more stellar academic career at Yale hide his transcripts. Well maybe it is for this reason:

IN OVERALL AVERAGE, BUSH GRADUATED WITH A SCORE OF 77 AFTER 4 YEARS OF YALE!

IN OVERALL AVERAGE, KERRY GRADUATED WITH A SCORE OF 76 AFTER 4 YEARS OF YALE!

Hmmph...what to make of this interesting statistic....

Now I voted for Kerry! Make no mistake about it. I did not support George W. Bush in the last election...but I also want to be a supporter of the truth.

George W. Bush and John Kerry had very similar academic careers at Yale!

And yes I know that grades do not equate always to overall IQ or intelligence. But like I said earlier, intelligence is not the main point of this post. TRUTH IS!

And yes I know that those grades can also depend on the kinds of courses taken while at Yale!

But one does have to wonder about one point:

If Kerry was so confident about his STELLAR academic career, why not divulge the Yale transcripts sooner....

Just a thought to ponder from this truth-seeking Democrat!!!

P.S. - Interesting little note - while at Yale Kerry recieved 4 D's in his classes.
George W. Bush only received one.

Political Rant of the Day - Right Wing Conspiracy My Ass!

It seems that every time the Supreme Court delivers a ruling in favor of the Bush Adminsitration, Democrats (which I now consider myself to be) call it a Right Wing Conspiracy. After a while, this becomes akin to the boy who cried wolf!

You hear about the Right Wing Conspiracy so much that eventually you just ignore it because you are so sick and tired of hearing that phrase tossed around like bad conversation at a Democratic Fund Raiser! (I am not a fan of Howard Dean!)

Let's look at the latest decision of the Supreme Court concerning the medical use of Marijuana. Now first lets look at the make up of the Supreme Court in terms of Liberal Justices vs. Conservative Justices.

Typically the following Justices are seen as making up the liberal part of the Court:

Stephen Breyer --- Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- John Paul Stevens -- David Souter

Typically the following Justices are seen as making up the conservative part of the Court:

William Rehnquist --- Clarence Thomas -- Antonin Scalia -- Anthony Kennedy

Finally, Sandra Day O'Conner is seen as a moderate, the swing vote if you will.

Now in case you didnt know, the Supreme Court ruled against allowing for marijuana to be used for medicinal purposes. People with illnesses that could be helped with marijuana cannot have the drug prescribed by their physician. Whether you agree or not that is the decision of America's highest court.

Lets look at the breakdown of the 6 - 3 decision shall we:

VOTING AGAINST THE USE OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA:

    Ruth Bader Ginsburg
    Stephen Breyer
John Paul Stevens - who read the majority opinion
    David Souter
    Antonin Scalia
    Anthony Kennedy

VOTING FOR SUPREME COURT TO STAY OUT OF IT AND ALLOW FOR MEDICAUL USE OF MARIJUANA:

    William Rehnquist
    Clarence Thomas
Sandra Day O'Conner - writing the dissent for the minority

Now based on this information, one can HARDLY call this a right wing decision. I mean damn you actually have Antonin Scalia (the pronounced leader of the anti-gay movement on the court) voting along side Ginsburg (one of the most liberal justices on the court).

You can hardly call it a Right Wing Conspiracy when you have Ginsburg, Stevens, Souter, and Breyer in the majority striking down the medical use of marijuana. These justices typically make up the beloved liberal side of the court that Democrats love.

Well guess what democrats, its you own beloved LIBERAL judges that now struck down medical marijuana and your hated CONSERVATIVE justices (Rehnquist, O'Conner, and Thomas) who voted to allow it.

Now obviously the labels of Conservative and Liberal depend on which topic you are discussing such as civil rights, states rights, social issues, etc....but based on the decision and the way the individual ways that the justices voted

YOU CANNOT CALL THIS A RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY PEOPLE!

    WAKE UP!

This message was sponsored by Matthew - a recently converted Democrat who doesnt put up with the whining-let's-bitch-and-moan-about-the-state-of-our-party-and-blame-everything-on-the-Republicans-like-Howard-Dean-does bullshit.

How about we take the issues to the people and let them decide. That is why we are democracy.

And lets stop yelling about the Right Wing Conspiracy. Obviously THAT is not working people. The republicans have won the senate and house elections for the last 12 years.

Lets find a new argument. The people dont believe the wolf is coming anymore.

    AND NEITHER DO I!

Whatever happens, happens - A Euphemism for Hooking Up

So we all know when we sign online to the internet such as gay.com or AOL we had better prepare ourselves those IMs. You know what I am talking about...

    "You lookin?"

    "Horny?"

"U top? Total horny ff bttm lookin to get plowed by a dominant master while tied down to the bed and used"

Ok...so the last one had a LOT of detail...BUT for those of you who are online you know its NOT that far off...

On some levels those IMs I can respect b/c they are open and honest about what they are looking for. It cracks me up when you have those sneaky guys who dont wanna come right out and say they are looking for a trick, but you can tell they just wanna fuck...

    Sample Conversation below:

RandomScreenname: "Hey how are you doing?"

Myself: "I am doing fine. How are you?"

RandomScreenname: "Doing great just killin time. u?"

    Myself: "The same."

RandomScreenname: "What you lookin for on here?"

Myself: "Meet a nice, cool guy. Maybe date. You?"

RandomScreenname: "Totally lookin for that. Not into
hooks up at all. I am looking for something long term but in
the mean time, whatever happens, happens."

For those who are still with me, you know this conversation is not too far off. Now as I have said in previous posts I dont care at ALL about people hookin up. I say if you are an adult, go and trick on ever corner if you like. Who am I to judge you?

But if you are lookin for a trick online either admit it or come up with a better phrase then "whatever happens, happens..."

Because to me "Whatever happens, happens" means "I will definately
hang out with you b/c i wanna suck each others dicks and maybe we
can fuck if its hot enough."

Ha Ha....now you know me. I could be reading way too much into it...but I dont think I am. Many times, out of curiosity, I take these conversations to the next level and ask the guy if he wants to have some hot fun if we click...he always says YES.

Now obviously he says YES for two reasons:

#1) - he is a guy..lets face it - we are all horny pretty much all the time

#2) - he really is looking to hook up - for some reason he just doesnt
wanna come out and admit it.

So lets all be open and honest like my friend Samuel (ha ha Sam!!!) - if you wanna fuck just say it - if you wanna date just say it - but I guess one little blog isnt gonna change the world so in the end I guess all you can say is...

    "Whatever happens, happens..."

Right Wing Justices For Marijuana - It's a Crazy World

The Supreme Court ruled today 6 - 3 that the federal government could prosecute elderly people and their doctors for distrubuting/using marijuana for medical purposes. It is always interesting to see how the Supreme Court will rule on issues such as this.

The 3 dissenting votes were typically conservative justices - Rehnquist, Thomas, and O'Conner. Now granted O'Conner is somewhat more moderate but the other two are quite conservative.

However, these justices opinions are not quite as shocking if you look deeper into the reasons behind their decisions.

Rehnquist, O'Conner, and Thomas are STAUNCH supporters of state's rights, and the ability of states to set their own guidelines and rules as long as they dont cause conflict with federal law.

Writing for the dissent, O'Conner argued...

"...Under the Constitution, Congress may pass laws regulating a state's economic activity so long as it involves "interstate commerce" that crosses state borders. The California marijuana in question was homegrown, distributed to patients without charge and without crossing state lines..."

"...The states' core police powers have always included authority to define criminal law and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of their citizens..."

So on the surface, one might think "WOW...3 right wing conservative justices all appointed by republicans supporting medical marijuana..." BUT -- the issue for theses justices was not really the validity of medical marijuana it was the ability of states to set their own laws within the guidelines of federal law.

State's rights was the bigger issue for these 3.

But medical marijuana was struck down by the other 6.....

Next issue....Who do you think will be resigning this year from the Court????

Cell Phone Cleaning - Deleting Telephone Numbers!

I hate having tons of numbers in my cell phone. All that damn scrolling just to find the person you are looking for. It irritates the crap out of me.

So tonight I was driving back from the bars (which I didnt stay at long at all) and decided to have me a little cell phone cleaning party all by myself. I deleted numbers like crazy. I deleted 15 numbers out of my cell phone.

Now these people dont know they have been deleted but deletion occurred for any number of possible reasons:

    * Lazy sons a bitches never called me. I always called them.

    * Lazy sons a bitches never returned my calls. (builds on the first option)

    * Person vanished and havent spoke to them in a while

    * Dont know who the person is (usually occurs when you are drunk!)

    * Nothing personal against the person but you have grown apart and dont talk anymore

    * Screwed me over and treated me like shit

Now these are merely possibilities and not representative of every reason why I have or will in the future delete a cell phone number.

It does feel good to skim off old numbers you dont need anymore.

I did a little test a few weeks ago with my cell phone. Because I am always the person who calls everyone else. No one ever calls me out of the blue. They always return my calls to them. So I vanished for 1 1/2 weeks. 11 days. No outbound calls to friends. I wanted to see who called me. Here is the list of people who called me.

Sam - (My friend from Atlanta, Georgia)

Adam - (My friend from Grand Junction, Colorado)

Jabbar - (My friend from Waco, Texas)

Yes. Yes. Yes. I see the pattern too....everyone who called me lived in a different city and 2 of them out of state. So I guess you learn who thinks about you and who makes an effort to call you and who doesnt.

My friend Andrew (who I dearly love) states that he called me, and he did...BUT the only reason he called me is b/c he felt guilty for shafting me and standing me up at the clubs the prior week. Usually he is almost impossible to get in touch with.

While the test is over, I still havent called several of my "friends" (see fair weather friends posting) and they have not called me either. And ya know what, I am ok with this.

Life is Life. Everything happens for a reason. It is ok to be upset, angry, frustrated, hurt, disappointed, and depressed for a little while. Those feelings are natural and valid. But after a little while, you just have to move on and LET EM GO.

So to all the people who have been in my life but no longer play a starring role, I wish you the best.....

hmmmm...I wonder how many cell phones I have been deleted out of....

    It does work both ways.......

Kelly Clarkson - A Natural Blonde?

Ok so this is basically a useless post...BUT

I was reading online wasting time..blah blah blah

I went to the homepage for Kelly Clarkson - she answered a question on the "Ask Kelly" section of her homepage...

Her natural hair color is Blonde -- hmmmmmm - i never knew

    Useless fact for the day!!!!

Drunken Stupor - Another Night out at the Bars

The date at Uncle Julio's went well. It was good food and good company. Afterwards, my date went to meet up with some of his friends that he had a prior arrangement with. I went to the Round Up.

The Round Up is the gay country bar here in Dallas. From the moment ya walk in, Cowboys everywhere. I love it! I had such a good buzz from all the margaritas at Uncle Julios that I thought I shouldnt waste it.

I show up at the Round Up at 9:30 pm. Yes very early for the night scene but I thought why the hell not...get a running head start on the drinking for the evening. So I go to my favorite bar tender who calls my name to the rooftops when he sees me gives me my drink of choice without asking and my Bank of America Credit Card gladly opens up a tab.

I am just sitting around drinking and watching the karaoke performances (which were quite tragic). My friend Greg comes up and starts talking to me. Greg is possibly the funniest guy I know. I am always bent over laughing every time he is around me. He dressed up one evening in drag and looked so much like a woman that I walked up to him said "Hi" and "Excuse Me" and did not even recognize him. He is a dead ringer for Jaime Lee Curtis...

I was supposed to hang out with my friend David who drove about 30 minutes in from Plano but I was so drunk and out of it that I think I only hung out with him for about 20 - 25 minutes which I feel really bad for. When I am drunk, all reality is gone....as it is for most people.

I apparently drunk called my friend Sam 3 times....and left these long ass messages each time. He played them back for me. They were actually pretty funny...at least I thought. Sam is just glad I did not wake him up.

My friend Steve got some guys number. Go STEVE!

I went home alone as I always do. I dont type this out of disappointment, but rather as a heads up to everyone reading this who might think "Wow...he was drunk off his ass, I bet he got him some."

NOTE** I do not hook up from bars. No matter how drunk I am, I do not go home with strangers from the bars. I prefer to actually date. Ok before I go off on that tangent, let me say that I dont have any problem if someone does hook up from a bar. I dont care what grown adults do...it's just not for me. I never seek to judge anyone else for their actions so by all means Hook-It-Up!

Even now I dont remember how much I actually drank. I had 3 margaritas at dinner plus 3 watermellon shots plus about 5 - 6 vodka cranberries. Needless to say I was 3 sheets to the wind. I could have had more to drink but I just cant remember.

I got home and ate my Wendys (yes I know its bad for you) and finally went to bed at about 3:45 am.

So I wake up this morning at 7:56 am cst when I have to be at work at 8:00 am - yikes! I call the manager on duty and apologize for being late. I make it to work by 8:30 am and I am on the phones making calls out by 8:45 am.

My head was killing me. Yes I was hungover, but the only ill-effect was me being 30 minutes late for work which sucked b/c I am usually never late. I made all my contacts for the day which was good and by 2:00 pm when I left work, my hangover was basically gone. I came home and crashed b/c I obviously needed sleep.

So here I am sitting at my computer around 10:45 pm wondering what the night will bring. My friend Andrew wants me to go out with him tonight. I think I will but I am not going to get anywhere near as drunk as I did last night. I dont think my body could take it!

Ok so I am calling Andrew on his cell phone at this very moment. I am going out...

Uncle Julios - Mexican, Margaritas and a Cute Guy

Went to Uncle Julio's last night on a date with a guy I recently met offline. I gave him this blog so I had to make the obligatory entry about him...ha ha. just kidding Chad --

    He is cute though!

Memorial Day Revisited - At Least it Probably Should Be

I was at my favorite Starbucks on Memorial Day grabbing a cup of coffee and reading the paper. A sweet and very nice girl was working behind the counter. I have seen her in their for months and she has even waited on me several times.

I was standing in line having just ordered my coffee and the next customer walked up to the bar to order. This very sweet and nice Starbucks employee walks up and asks out loud "What is Memorial Day for anyway?".

I was FLOORED! SHOCKED! AMAZED! And not in a good way!

How sad that the holiday meant to honor fallen soldiers has been forgotten by some. If it wasnt for the soldiers which Memorial Day honors, we might not enjoy the very freedoms we have today!

    Lets never forget people!

Deep Throat Revealed - And NO Im Not Talking About Some Blonde Porn Star

So Deep Throat finally came forward. Wow! That mysterious figure that brought down Richard Nixon during the infamous Watergate scandal now has a face to put to a name.

Felt, the # 2 guy in the FBI at the time, ratted out the president of the US, a member of his own party.

Would you have the guts to do that?

    I don't know if I would.

When People Walk Away - Let Them Walk!

I received this email from my friend Samuel (his blog is posted to the right :-)). Its about what to do when people in your life walk away from you.

Do you run after them desperately trying to hold on to whatever it was that you two had together?

Or do you let them walk away?

Read this email posted below...its a keeper!

Just a warning for all the RELIGIOUS-PHOBES out there...this email has some references to GOD b/c it was written by T.D. Jakes a pastor out of Dallas so if ya cant handle that...just skip this entry. :-)

"....There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you: let them walk. I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone. When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left.

The bible said that, they came out from us

that it might be made manifest that they were not for

us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with

    us. [1 John 2:19]

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are
not joined to you, you can't make them stay.

    Let them go.

And it doesn't mean that they are a bad person it just means that
their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when people's
part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the dead.

You've got to know when it's dead.

You've got to know when it's over. Let me tell you something. I've got
the gift of good-bye. It's the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in
    good-bye. It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I
know whatever God means for me to have He'll give it to me. And if
it takes too much sweat I don't need it. Stop begging people to stay.

    Let them go!!

If you are holding on to something that doesn't belong to you and was
never intended for your life, then you need to...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to past hurts and pains...

    LET IT GO!!!

If someone can't treat you right, love you back, and see your worth...

    LET IT GO!!!

    If someone has angered you...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents

    LET IT GO!!!

If you have a bad attitude...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you're stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you keep trying to help someone who won't even try to help themselves...

    LET IT GO!!!

If you're feeling depressed and stressed...

    LET IT GO!!!

    *****Disclaimer Below

A Bad Day That Kept Getting Worse - Bleck!

I dont want to spend all my time on my blog bitching about my days at work because how interesting is that too read...but damnit my day was shit. It probably ranks as one of the top 3 worst days I have ever had at my current job. Nothing and I mean nothing was going right for me today. I just wanted to run out of the office and never come back.

I am working on this Saturday for a co-worker. Because I am working on Saturday I get a comp day to use next week. Today was so bad I am using my comp day tomrrow on Friday in advance just to have a day off to re-coup.

Are you supposed to be frustrated and stressed out everyday at work?

Is your job supposed to make you hate people?

Should your job drive you to drinking, therapy and eventual AA meetings?

At least I have tomrrow off...I hope....

My manager is going to email me tomorrow morning to let me know if its ok. I hope she says yes....i think she will....lets all PRAY!

For my sanity and the sanity of this blog.

Porches and Patios - A Relaxing Evening

I got off from work late tonight at 6:45 pm. I rushed home and went for a run of about 5 miles. After the run I sat on my patio (after showering of course) and talked my friend Sam (whose blog is linked to the right) for about 30 minutes. It was so relaxing to catch up with him and just relax.

I had to end the conversation with him b/c I had dinner plans with some friends here in Dallas. Sam lives in Atlanta, Georgia. So I had dinner tonight with a few friends at Cafe Express. This is an awesome restaurant. They have the best food and most of it is actually very healthy for you. They have a great patio to sit out on and enjoy the nice weather we are having. This particular Cafe Express is located at a place called Mockingbird Station, a huge complex of stores, restaurants, a movie theater, etc. Fun times!

Have you ever just been at a certain place and a certain time that you didnt want to leave? You were havin such a good time and you felt so relaxed that you almost wish that time would stop for just a little while?

That was tonight. These two guys are becoming great friends. Great conversation. Great food. Great location. Great weather. Great Night.

What an awesome ending to an otherwise blah day!

That is what friends are for!
